‎ ‎ ‎ Ben C. Dawson

Ben C. Dawson(b.1996) is an American composer of acoustic and electronic music, educator, and performer. Heavily inspired by the video game music of his childhood, his musical voice mixes elements of Western classical tradition, American Jazz, and electronica. Ben’s music is vibrant, fluid, and persuasive; his works draw on a love for and fascination with the natural world to illustrate issues of environment, identity, and belonging. A strong proponent of programmatic music, with a focus on video game/film scoring and other interactive media, his projects strive to create distinct, engaging soundscapes as finely nuanced as the narratives they describe. He holds a Bachelor’s of Music in Composition from the University of Missouri – Columbia where he studied under Drs. Carolina Heredia, Yoshiaki Onishi, Stefan Freund, Angelo Manzo, and Julia Bentley.

In 2021 The Sheldon Concert Hall | St. Louis commissioned God of Doors for French Horn and Piano – a piece depicting the contemplative life of the Roman God, Janus. Other recent projects include a commission from the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, scoring the short film Villain directed by Missouri-based filmmaker Tyler Price, and an upcoming large-ensemble work.

Based out of Atlanta, GA, Dawson continues to write, teach, and produce music. In addition to Irene Music | Studio, you can find him teaching at New School of Music, Atlanta Music Education, Peachtree Charter Middle School, and Dunwoody School for the Arts.
