Irene Music | Studio

Hello, and welcome to Irene Music | Studio!

I offer in-person and online lessons in: Brass, Classical Voice, Beginner/Intermediate Piano, Music Theory, Music Production, Music Composition, and Music College Counseling.

My #1 goal during private lessons is positive student engagement as I believe it’s much easier to learn about the world of music when you’re having a good time and are excited about what you’re learning. Instead of offering lessons based solely on a specific instrument, I like to think of my studio as “music lessons” as music at its core is collaborative and many musical concepts and techniques are helpful in all disciplines. This means sometimes even students who are instrumentalists will do a bit of singing and vocalists will learn a bit about the piano and its functions. This interdisciplinary approach leads to a well-rounded educational experience that will prepare them for the rest of their musical journey, from amateur to professional.

My Music Major College Counseling is designed to hold the hand of high school juniors and seniors interested in pursuing a degree in music as they navigate the various application and audition processes of music schools, as well as preparing them with the tools, education, and skills necessary to succeed in their first year of college. The course is essentially split into two phases: Phase One is focused on researching schools and their curriculum, contacting studio professors to discuss trial lessons, deliberating on which school, teacher or program is the best fit, and scheduling/preparing for auditions. Phase Two is more education-focused with an introduction to(or review of) collegiate-level music theory, aural skills, music technology, and jazz.

Recommendations

”I had a great experience taking lessons with Ben. He was able to cater to both my beginner trombone brother, and my more complex music theory, jazz, and audio equipment questions. We even did college audition prep, both mocking an audition and practicing taking an interview.”

“I definitely recommend this studio. My daughter Milan, who has been playing trombone since 4th grade, enjoyed her first lesson from the start. Ben made it fun, while being able to quickly assess what level she was at with trombone, and then taught her a higher level of skills not taught in high school. Ben is a very knowledgeable tutor. He knew how to teach her what she needed to learn to acquire a university band scholarship. I am so happy I picked Ben to tutor my daughter. I can’t say enough about him.”

”I worked alongside Ben at a donut shop for some time. Despite being irrelevant to the job we were doing at the time, it was impossible to know this man without recognizing his inexhaustible passion and wealth of knowledge in music and theory. His skills to make music feel accessible and understandable to people regardless of their level of prior knowledge are matched only by his effervescence and sense of humor. Not only is he a very capable educator by nature, he is an absolute delight and the perfect person to sow future generations of talented and passionate musicians.”
