Irene Music

Hey, I’m Ben!

I have a Bachelor of Music in Composition and am a classically trained vocalist. I have been playing Euphonium and Trombone for 17 years, singing for 10 years, and giving music lessons for about 8.

In my free time I attend YouTube University, play video games, mess around with music production, and touch grass(I took all of the background photos! :D).

My full bio can be seen on the [About] page.

What is Irene Music?

Music has been the single greatest inspirational force in my life and my sole object of interest since my first day of middle school band. It helps me process the bad and highlights the good—moments where I’ve felt as though I’ve had nothing, and those where I felt I had everything. Even though I got my musical start playing Euphonium in 6th grade, I’ve never been interested in just one element or aspect of music; from playing low brass in marching band to conducting an ensemble, from writing a new work to singing tenor in choir, I have always been fascinated with all avenues music intersects. If I were to champion only one aspect of my musicianship it wouldn’t be true to the love and vision I have for the art form or myself. So, Irene Music is the home for all of the different faces and forms of my musical endeavors. Irene Music is my self-cultivated musical identity. Irene Music is me.

New: Music Major College Counseling

From All-State Honor Band to extracurricular ensembles, from 4 years of marching band and serving as Drum Major to AP Music Theory, I did everything I knew how to as a grade school musician to prepare myself for higher education and a possible future in music. Even after all of this, I still found myself lost and underprepared for all of the questions and procedures specific to music majors: What can I expect from an audition day? What’s the difference between Music Education and Music Performance? What does a typical week look like as a music major? What are the possible career avenues for music? The truth is many of my peers, family, and even teachers weren’t equipped with either the knowledge or time necessary to guide me through these questions or my specific career path. And that’s why I began offering Music Major College Counseling—to make sure the next generation of music students(and their parents!) don’t have to go through the stress and uncertainty that so often accompanies a prospective collegiate music student. In MMCC we will go through potential music career paths, research school programs, compile and schedule audition dates and requirements, discuss expectations of music instruction/theory, and cover collegiate music theory concepts—as well as go over any questions or topics the student wishes.
